Tasmania squid: north-coast closure ends 31 October; south-east stays closed through 14 November

Southern calamari and all other squid species · Effective 2026-09-01 · Checked 2026-10-28

Tasmania's existing 2026 spawning closures have different end dates. The north-coast closure runs from 1 September through 31 October inclusive; the south-east closure runs from 15 October through 14 November inclusive. Fishing Tasmania explicitly lists 15 November as the south-east reopening. During closures, taking or possessing squid is prohibited in the affected waters, as is possessing a squid jig attached to a line. Recreationally caught squid or parts cannot be brought into a closed area, even if caught earlier or elsewhere; commercially purchased bait is excepted. Check the official boundary map and current rules before fishing. This is a reminder of adopted seasonal restrictions, not a new October rule or a single statewide reopening. It reinforces the linked guide's existing dates; it does not correct or replace its prose. Checked 28 October 2026.

NSW: Murray cod spring closure runs through 30 November

Murray cod · Effective 2026-09-01 · Checked 2026-10-23

NSW DPIRD confirms the annual Murray cod closure from 1 September through 30 November 2026, except Copeton and Blowering dams. An ordinary NSW river trip should be planned from 1 December, subject to local closures and access requirements. Do not target Murray cod in closed waters. During open seasons, the current NSW table lists a 55–75 cm legal length, two fish daily and four in possession; other water-specific restrictions can still apply. This is a reminder of an existing seasonal restriction, announced on 24 August, not a new October rule. It reinforces the December timing already stated in the linked guide and does not extend NSW rules to waters governed by another jurisdiction.

These notices cover the changes listed, not every rule for the region. Check the linked authority before fishing.
